Scindapsus alpinus Alderw. is an accepted botanical species in the family Araceae. It is a climbing plant native to Sumatra, where it occurs in the wet tropical biome.
The species is characterized by broad, heart-shaped, leathery leaves, giving the foliage a substantial appearance.
The species was described by C.R.W.K. van Alderwerelt van Rosenburgh and published in Bulletin du Jardin Botanique de Buitenzorg in 1922. The type specimen is Bünnemeijer 4998, deposited at the Herbarium Bogoriense (BO).
The epithet alpinus is associated linguistically with alpine or high-mountain environments. A documented explanation from Alderwerelt establishing why he selected the epithet has not been identified, so the name itself is not treated as evidence of the plant's collection elevation or habitat.
Unlike many names encountered horticulturally within Scindapsus, Scindapsus alpinus is an accepted botanical species. Its documented native distribution is Sumatra.
Variegated Greens classification: Accepted botanical species.
