Scindapsus carolinensis Hosok. is an accepted botanical species in the family Araceae. Japanese botanist Takahide Hosokawa collected the type specimen, Hosokawa 8308, on Chuuk in 1936 and formally published the species in 1937 in the Journal of Japanese Botany. The original publication included an illustration. 1

The species is a climbing aroid native to Chuuk in the Caroline Islands. Botanical records have documented it from several islands within Chuuk, including Moen, now commonly called Weno, as well as Dublon, Toi and Fefan. Later treatments of Micronesian flora regard it as endemic to Chuuk. 2

Published modern botanical sources accessible for this entry provide little detailed species-level description of the foliage. They establish its climbing growth habit, but do not provide enough verified morphological detail here to confidently describe specific leaf shape, size, colour, texture or markings. For that reason, more detailed horticultural descriptions encountered online are not repeated as established identifying characteristics.

Scindapsus carolinensis should not be confused with Epipremnum carolinense. Both are climbing aroids associated with Micronesia and have very similar species names, but they belong to different genera and are treated as separate botanical species.

Unlike many names encountered in horticultural Scindapsus collections, carolinensis is not simply a trade or community name. It is a formally published botanical species with documented type material, publication history and geographic provenance.
