Blurik

𝗔𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀: Blurik, Scindapsus Blurik
𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆: Araceae
𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘂𝘀: Scindapsus
𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀: Unresolved
𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀: Horticultural / trade name
𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻 / 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Documented in horticultural circulation; original geographic origin, collection locality and provenance not established

“Blurik” is a horticultural name used for a Scindapsus circulating in the international plant trade. Independent commercial listings establish use of the name for Scindapsus, but documentation identifying the original collector, grower or selector, or explaining when and where the horticultural name originated, has not been identified.

Plants circulated horticulturally as “Blurik” are shown with broad, ovate to somewhat heart-shaped leaves and conspicuous green-on-green patterning. Documented examples show a dark-green ground irregularly overlaid with brighter green to yellow-green markings. These may form broad patches, mottling, streaks and finer marbling across the leaf blade. The amount and distribution of the patterning can vary considerably from leaf to leaf, with some leaves appearing strongly patterned while others remain predominantly dark green. These characteristics describe plants circulating under the horticultural name Blurik and should not be interpreted as diagnostic evidence of a particular botanical species.

The name is noteworthy because “lurik” occurs in Indonesian usage in connection with Scindapsus pictus. Indonesian sources record “Sirih Lurik” and “Skindapsus Lurik” as local names for S. pictus, including field studies documenting plants under those names in Indonesia.

The similarity between “Blurik” and “lurik” raises the possibility that the horticultural name may be related to this Indonesian terminology. However, documentation establishing that relationship has not been identified. The meaning or origin of the initial “B” in “Blurik” also remains unresolved. Interpretations such as “Black Lurik,” “Biru Lurik,” or other expansions of the name should therefore not be assumed without supporting evidence.

The documented association between “lurik” and Scindapsus pictus does not by itself establish the botanical identity of plants circulating horticulturally as “Blurik.” No documentation has been identified demonstrating that “Blurik” represents S. pictus, a particular selection of that species, or another identified Scindapsus. Its species is therefore treated here as unresolved.

Variegated Greens classification: Horticultural / trade name of unresolved botanical identity.

The botanical identity, original collector, grower or selector, precise geographic origin, original naming circumstances, meaning of the horticultural name, and documented ancestry of Blurik remain unresolved.
