“Blue Albo” is a horticultural name used for a variegated Scindapsus circulating internationally in the plant trade.
Plants circulated horticulturally as Blue Albo are shown with broad, oval to somewhat heart-shaped leaves. The darker portions of the foliage commonly appear blue-green to grey-green, contrasting with cream to white variegation. The pale areas can occur as large sections covering a substantial portion of the leaf, including approximately half of the leaf in some examples, as well as smaller irregular areas. The amount and placement of the variegation can vary considerably between leaves and individual plants. These characteristics describe plants circulating under the Blue Albo name and do not by themselves establish its botanical identity.
The name has circulated internationally since at least 2021. Early imported material was identified in trade documentation as Scindapsus treubii, while later horticultural usage increasingly associates Blue Albo with Scindapsus hederaceus. Neither identification has been established through botanical documentation.
Scindapsus hederaceus is an accepted botanical species. Botanical descriptions characterize it by relatively narrow, elongated leaves, while juvenile plants can show moderate to extensive silvery patterning running along the length of the leaf. This provides context for the horticultural association with Blue Albo, but resemblance and repeated seller usage do not establish that plants circulated as Blue Albo are Scindapsus hederaceus.
Plants circulated as “Blue Albo Salaka” or “Blue Albo Salaca” also occur in horticultural trade. An Indonesian specialist supplier associates Blue Albo Salaca with Mount Salak in West Java, Indonesia. This documents a horticultural provenance claim for plants sold under that extended name, but documentation establishing their relationship to plants circulated simply as Blue Albo has not been identified.
Variegated Greens classification: Horticultural / trade name of unresolved botanical identity.
The botanical identity, originator, original collection locality, naming circumstances, documented ancestry, and relationship to Blue Albo Salaka or Salaca remain unresolved.
