“Baticon” is a horticultural name used for a variegated Scindapsus circulating from Indonesia. The plant has also been encountered as Scindapsus exotica “Baticon” and as Scindapsus pictus Baticon. These names reflect horticultural associations with Exotica and Scindapsus pictus, but documentation establishing its botanical identity or parentage has not been identified.

A useful early record appears in a June 2022 video filmed with Indonesian grower and collector Handry of @mysecondplant. The accompanying description introduced Scindapsus exotica “Baticon” as Handry’s “original creation.” This provides an early documented association between Baticon and Handry, but does not by itself establish when the plant originated, how it arose, or who first named it.

By March 2023, plants recorded as Scindapsus Baticon were being exported from Indonesia, providing additional evidence that the name had entered international horticultural circulation.

Plants circulated as Baticon are generally shown with heart-shaped foliage combining green and silver with irregular yellow to yellow-green variegation. The markings can appear as fine flecking, mottled areas and larger irregular patches, and their amount and placement can vary considerably from one leaf to another. These characteristics describe plants circulating under the Baticon name and do not by themselves establish its botanical identity or ancestry.

An Indonesian specialist seller states that the name “Baticon” was derived from “batik,” referring to the Indonesian patterned textile tradition, together with “con,” which the seller describes as meaning “concelation.” Independent documentation establishing this explanation or the intended meaning of “con” has not been identified. The complete origin and meaning of the name therefore remain unresolved.

Baticon is best treated as an Indonesian horticultural / trade name. Its association with Exotica, Scindapsus pictus and Handry is documented in horticultural sources, while its botanical identity, parentage, original naming circumstances and complete name derivation remain unresolved.
