Bakudapati

Also encountered as: Bakudapati
Family: Araceae
Genus: Scindapsus
Species: Unresolved
Naming status: Horticultural / trade name
Origin / provenance: Indonesia - exact locality and origin of the horticultural plant not documented
“Bakudapati” is a horticultural name used internationally for a distinctive Scindapsus. It has not been established as a published botanical species name, and documentation establishing it as a formally described cultivar has not been identified.

The word Bakudapati has documented use in Indonesia as an acronym formed from Banjar, Kutai, Dayak, Paser, and Tidung, names associated with peoples of Kalimantan. A direct documentary connection between this usage and the naming of the cultivated Scindapsus, however, has not been established.

Plants circulated as “Bakudapati” are generally recognized by thick, substantial leaves with dark-green coloration, prominent silver patterning, and areas of yellow variegation. A broadly recognizable appearance occurs throughout international horticultural trade, although morphology alone does not establish botanical identity or ancestry.

The plant is sometimes described in horticultural trade as having an Exotica base, while other supplier-derived classifications associate it with Silver Knight. Documentary evidence establishing either ancestry has not been identified. These descriptions are therefore treated as horticultural claims rather than verified provenance.

The name “Bakudapati” is widely used internationally among sellers and Scindapsus collectors. Its widespread horticultural use establishes the name as more than an isolated seller label, but does not by itself establish botanical or cultivar status.

Variegated Greens classification: Horticultural name of unresolved botanical identity.

Its botanical identity, documented ancestry, and circumstances of introduction remain unresolved.
