𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀: Unresolved

𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻 / 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Associated horticulturally with Indonesia; original collection locality and provenance not documented
“Black Wizard” is a horticultural name used for a Scindapsus circulating in the international plant trade. It does not appear to represent a formally published botanical name, and its species identity remains unresolved.
An Indonesian specialist supplier describes Black Wizard as a mutation of a plant circulated as Black Dragon and describes its variegation as greenish-yellow. This documents a supplier-reported relationship between the two horticultural names, but does not establish that relationship botanically. Independent documentation confirming the proposed mutation history or ancestry has not been identified.
Plants circulated horticulturally as Black Wizard are shown with broad, oval to heart-shaped leaves. The foliage ranges from medium to deep green, with irregular lighter markings that can appear greenish-yellow, pale green or silvery-grey. These markings range from fine speckling and blended areas to much larger patches, and their amount and placement can vary considerably from one leaf to another. These characteristics describe plants circulating under the Black Wizard name and do not by themselves establish its botanical identity or ancestry.
The available evidence supports treating Black Wizard as a horticultural / trade name. Its visual similarities to plants circulated as Black Dragon are not evidence of ancestry, and the reported relationship between the two remains a horticultural claim unless further documentation is found.
Variegated Greens classification: Horticultural / trade name of unresolved botanical identity.
The botanical identity, original collector, grower or selector, precise geographic origin, original naming circumstances, and documented ancestry of Black Wizard remain unresolved.
