“Bahorok” is a horticultural name used for a distinctive Scindapsus circulating in the international plant trade.
Plants circulated horticulturally as Bahorok are generally shown with broad, substantial leaves that are relatively thick and deep green. Silver to silvery-grey markings appear irregularly across the leaves as fine mottling, blended patterns and larger patches. Some examples also develop cream to whitish areas. The amount and placement of the green, silver and pale markings can vary considerably from one leaf to another. In our Grove, we have observed Bahorok foliage expressing white, silver and shifting shades of green in both broader areas and finer markings. These characteristics describe plants circulating under the Bahorok name and do not by themselves establish its botanical identity or ancestry.
The name corresponds with Bahorok, a district in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Horticultural sources also associate the plant with Sumatra, but a documented collection locality or direct evidence establishing that the plant was named for, or collected in, Bahorok has not been identified.
Some horticultural sources associate Bahorok with Exotica or identify it as Scindapsus pictus. Documentary evidence establishing either ancestry or species identification has not been identified. These are therefore treated as horticultural claims rather than verified provenance or taxonomy.
Variegated Greens classification: Horticultural / trade name of unresolved botanical identity.
Its exact botanical identity, documented ancestry, collection locality, and circumstances of introduction remain unresolved.
